So they decided to go back to the long go/ short go style at the RCA rodeos. I like it this way cause if you're 5th thru 10th in the long go you still have a shot at some money in the short go.
Looked at the draw and kristen was first then I was 21st. So I figured I would walk her down the alley then warm my horse up and get everything ready to run. Were sitting there waiting on them to start when the guy that directs everyone in the back due to you can never hear...starts calling MY name. BIG difference in Lisa and Kristen. So I was like crap I guess they changed it, wouldn't be the first time and it wouldn't of surprised me. So I QUICKLY put on my rubber bands while he is still yelling MY name. I sit up pull my hat down and he yells at me again and tells me to come on... So I did.
As it turns out, nothing had changed and the announcer said Kristens name. So after I came out they wanted to DQ me for running out of turn! Ummm excuse me? I would have NEVER ran if he wouldn't of been calling my name and telling me to come on! So after 10 run and they're dragging they call the guy from the back to the announcer stand.. And we all knew why. Turns out he told them he never said my name. Thankfully when he walked off this lady sitting on the bucking chutes stood up and said that she had it all on video. Then several girls in the back went and told the judges and president of the assoc. That he did in fact call my name and not Kristens. So they decided they would "let it slide".
I'm waiting on Kristen to run when the pres. Walks back there and tells me "that crap can't be happening and it better not happen again" so while they're dragging at number 20 I walked up the alley and told mr gate man.. You better not be calling my name unless its actually MY turn. He tells me I never did call your name. Told him that was a bunch of BS and he knew it. Then I left it at that.
Kristen ended up 2nd in the long go and I ended up 5th. Jet didn't fire, and I frankly don't blame him.
Later during the day one of the judges... We call him Mr. Cocky himself.. Felt the need to stop me and tell me they could have DQ'ed me this morning... Umm yes I'm very well aware you could have.. But yall didn't, can we drop it now? Oohh no! He then gave me a lecture on how I need to pay attention to the draw posted on the wall cause that is what they always go by. I wanted to tell him he was full of crap at this point.. But I didn't. Then he goes on about how I need to pay attention to who the announcer was calling. Right... I would if you could actually hear the announcer outside of the arena! So finally he tells me don't let it happen again. Seriously?!?! I've been doing this...awhile and I have NEVER ran out of order. I wouldn't of ever have done it if he wouldn't of been clearly saying MY name.
So I just stayed at the trailer the rest of the day.. Turns out the pres. Catches a few more people with me and told them to tell me next time it happened I would be DQ'ed. Too bad there won't be a next time! Ill go to the last two rodeos they have and the finals since I'm winning it for the year, but I will NOT be back next year.
Finally the perf. That night starts. We all joked around in the back about him calling my name. Told them I didn't care who or what he said I wasn't running till 5th since that's where I was suppose to run! Kristen had a nice little run and ended up 2nd again. Me on the other hand... I'm not sure if Jet was running barrels or not. He fired hard into the arena then never rated for the first barrel so I had to really take ahold of him and cost us a lot of time. Then I just smooth ran over the 2nd.. No idea why he just set up and hit it. The third barrel was really nice. Oh well can't win them all I guess.

August 7th and 8th 2009
Decided to go to the Fort Worth stockyards and run.
Got there late Friday, and found out that they had not recieved my online entry but they had spots open in the Perf. yay! Jet SMOKED the first barrel, even when I told him to turn way too soon. Lol bet anyone thats been to Northside didn't know you could tell one to turn too soon huh? Going into the 2nd barrel he tripped and it jerked the reins out of my hand I saw them flying towards his head and all I could think was they were about to go over his head. Thankfully he got his head up and they stopped at his ears. But by the time I was able to reach up and grab them I was just about at the timer and the judge and barrel setter were looking for some place to go lol. So we just cruised the rest of the pattern.
Saturday we toured all of the stockyards...it was fun, but wow do my feet hurt!
Saturday night I was 12th out on the ground, two further down then I was the night before. Figured i'd just have to make the best of that. Smoked the first again, got hung up a little on the backside of the 2nd and had a good third. Ran a 14.07 and ended up 3rd. A 14.19 won Friday night..lol such luck. But I did win enough money to cover my fee's for the weekend.

Went to the RCA rodeo in Kinder,La.. just a one go rodeo.
Guess Jet thought he was still going to hurt going to the first, he was flying to it but you could tell he was pretty unsure if he wanted to turn it or not. After I bumped him he figured out it wasn't going to turn and snapped back. Beautiful second barrel, and got pretty deep at the third. But it was a pretty good run over all and put us second by .004 and got us a $600 check so it put us over $1,000 ahead in the year end standings.

Soo...its been awhile
Since i've last posted..a LONG time ago here's what I remember.
3rd in the long go and 2nd in the short go and won the average at the Longview,Tx RCA rodeo the end of June.
Two out of the money at the pro rodeo in Jacksonville,Tx July 9th.
Won a little jackpot by 3 tenths on Shorty on a HUGE pattern.
Haven't had a whole lot of luck other then that.

Oh how I hate..
Nacogdoches,Tx. I've ran here 4 times in the last couple of years. First time I slid to the wall on the first, 2nd wasn't much better, 3rd was ok. Second time I tried it my horse completely lost his rear end on the 3rd barrel and swapped directions in his fall..came up on top of the third barrel and then almost went over backwards trying to get off of it.
Soo earlier this year I decided to try my luck and enter the pro rodeo here, worst came to worst I now had a little horse who could stand up on anything I could ride. But ahh, someone got happy with the water truck and the ground was deep and just sucked you in. No problems with the ground besides that it was extremely slow.
So today at the RCA rodeo in the long go..ground looked good. I hustled him up the alley and as soon as he went to set to turn the first he started loosing his rear end. His rear end was going up the pen and his front end was trying to turn. I kept thinking wow this feels really weird, can't be good when WHAM his front end dissapeared. All 4 feet came out from under him. I came back up on top of him..but I was facing where I had just came into the first barrel at. This is only his 4th time in 6 years to fall so he was a little confused when he came back up and was on the wrong side of the barrel.
No more..I have tried my luck enough here.

Mount Pleasant,Tx
UPRA rodeo.. Ran there earlier this year and the ground was kind of deep, but pretty good. So I figured i'd enter this one there. Helps when they put some water on sandy ground. First two out did ok, after that it was bad. Of course I was 7th out. By the time I ran it was pretty dang deep. First barrel was ok, i'm use to him whipping back on the backside, this time I turned ahead of him since he got hung in the ground. Second barrel his rear end was sliding and his front end was scrambling..lovely. The third barrel was about like the 1st, I turned..then he turned. Was sitting 3rd when I left Thursday night, but i'm sure it's changed. Ahh the luck.

Hattiesburg,Ms
I must say..the Forrest County Multi Event complex is SUPER nice. They have 5 stall barns, 2 on concrete, the rest on dirt. Then they had a big building all the rodeo contestants could back up under and plug in. They didn't charge for stalls or hookups. EVERYTHING was connected by a huge covered walkway. They had a covered warm up pen, and the arena was super nice. Its rare you run across a indoor air conditioned coliseum that you can set up a STANDARD pattern and have the barrels 25' off the walls.
They usually have a entertainer, then the team roping, then the barrel racing. So usually I get on when the entertainer goes in and have PLENTY of time. So I was doing the same thing, put the last boot on my horse as the guy is going in. Then I hear his mic cutting out as i'm going to get my hat out of the trailer. I step out of the trailer and here..."We're setting up the barrels and going barrel racing" They said forget the entertainer for then since the mics wern't cooperating..and the announcer skipped the team roping! So I ran grabbed my bridle, threw it on. Then went trotting across the parking lot putting rubber bands on, tucking in my shirt, putting my hat on. Got there as the first girl was going down the alley. So I quickly finished tightening my girth, trotted a few more circles then went down the alley.
Jet WALKED down the alley so I woke him up and off we went. He felt like he was a little lost going to the first. Kinda had problems slipping on the backside of the 2nd on his front end, then bowed off the 3rd barrel. Landed us 2nd place by a tenth. I was really happy with him lol.

Little Rock,Ar
It rained, rained, then rained some more. Thankfully it was a indoor run. But there was no where to warm up besides walking and trotting up and down the isles in the horse barn and cow show barns..on asphalt.
I ran a 15.7, but hit the 2nd barrel going into it. It was won with a 15.9..eerr
We leave for Hattiesburg,Ms Thursday sometime.

It's been awhile.
Since Deridder,La rodeo, we went to Alvarado,Tx to the Marry Etta Madness the next two days (April 4th-5th). Saturday night was a total pilot brain fart error, That made me go wow..did you seriously just do that? I have only tipped the first barrel going into it 3 times in the 6 years i've been running Jet..THREE times. Saturday night in Alvarado I hit it going in, due to bumping him. Then he turned back so hard and quick I hit it again before it ever fell very far and drug it over leaving it. Turned a nice 2nd, then hit the 3rd going in just due to quit riding him way too soon.
Then Sunday I let him rock and roll and said I was NOT going to touch him. I didn't lol. He just made a awesome first so I spaked him to the 2nd and turned that one great. Now.. brain farts seem to go hand in hand in Alvarado it seems. I switched hands (I run left, whip with right hand) to pick up my over and under..and I missed it the first time I went to grab it. So I reached to grab it again, then just thought oh well and kept kicking..but never switched back hands. Right before he went to start his turn I thought uhh, I have the wrong hand on the reins, I have no idea if this will work..but I hope it does. He got to the backside and I usually just guide him around the backside..well I couldn't pull with my outside hand so I just had the reins totally loose. He took a stride out of the turn and I switch hands and made him complete it. But when I switched hands and pulled him it stalled him out. So it deffinetly cost us some time. We ended up 19th out of 900+ runs.
We didn't go anywhere the weekend of the 11th.
April 17th we went to the first outdoor pro rodeo i've entered this year. So of course it rains..and rains..and rains. That is hopefully the sloppiest, muddiest, suckiest, worst ground i've ever run in. They NEVER drug. I was 43rd out including the ones in the performance. Soo by the time I ran we wern't running barrels we were swimming through deep nasty trenches. So needless to say we saftied up, and ended up 6 tenths off so we didn't place.
I was entered at another rodeo on the 21st, but had to turn out due to a sore horse from the previous rodeo. Went and had his hocks, stifles, and ankles injected on the 21st(I love my vet, got in the same day even though he was fully booked) So then I had to turn out of a rodeo on the 24th. I did run on the 25th and won the long go, short go and of course average.
We're now in Little Rock,Ar...run tonight.
Then next weekend will be Hattiesburg,Ms

Deridder,La rodeo
Ahh back to civilization!!
There is NO cell phone service in Deridder,La..its crazy lol. I got to turn my horses out Thursday night in the warm up pen for them to roll and buck and have fun for awhile. Then put them up around 10:30 and went to bed. Not a whole lot to do during the day,so I took them out and ponied Jet off Shorty for awhile. Then we put up our little portable pen and let them eat some green grass for awhile. Around 2pm we put them back up and took a nap since we knew it'd be late when we left.
I knew he was going to take off from far back down this long alley..just didn't know it'd be that far back lol. He was just calmly walking along then he was like ahh I know what we're doing and off we went. Wow did he leave hard..harder then he has in awhile. He ran really hard to the first and turned it good, then I held my outside hand on the reins the WHOLE way across the pen and switched right before we went to turn. He dropped just right and inhaled it, we were REALLY close coming into the 3rd but squeeked by it and left it standing thankfully. Not sure what I ran due to no one could hear and it wasn't posted by the time we left.
We left Deridder at 11:30, crossed back into Tx from La, got to the first little town and we saw the speed limit sign saying it dropped to 55..so we did. Then all a sudden we see flashing lights, and we got pulled over. We were all wondering what was wrong..turns out somewhere there was supposivly (lol) a sign that said it drops to 45. Thankfully after lots of apologizing and saying we didn't know she let us off with a warning.
It'll be around 2:30-3am by the time we get home.. then we have to get up at 6am to go work the dirt at the churches arena, by the time were done there it'll be time to go home and load back up and leave for Alvarado,Tx around hopefully noon for Win More's Merry Etta Madness.

Beaumont,Tx pro rodeo
So we made in PLENTY of time since they had the calf roping and steer wrestling before the barrels. It thankfully quit raining in time for us to saddle, warm up and run with the sun shining. We were headed towards the alley and he lunged like he always does..then stopped..that was a new one. Then he took little baby steps just walking..which again was a new one. I just sat there waiting for him to take off when finally I was like ok, you should be running by now...GOOO! I guess it finally clicked and he took off. We tipped the 2nd coming into it, then stood it up and rocked it again leaving it..but thankfully it stayed standing.
Right now after slace Shelley Morgan is winning it, i'm not sure who is second, I'm sitting 3rd and Jackie Dube Jatzlau is 4th. Sooo I'm very happy with my pony.

Rain rain Go AWAY!
We left at 5:30 this morning..as soon as we get to the end of our driveway it starts pouring...err. Once Mount Enterprise,Tx till the north side of Lufkin it rained soo hard the visability was half mile at best with the wind pushing cars all around on the road. We got to Huntington and we ran into hail. It finally Stopped from Wooden-Kountz but now that we're just north of Beaumont it has started again... I hope it stops before we have to run.

Nacogdoches pro rodeo 3-27-09
This arena is notorious for having HARD ground at the pro rodeo. So I of course took Jet. I was number 25 out so I was up there for the first few to run. It became very clear that I had loaded up the wrong horse this morning. Someone got very happy with watering the arena. They did do a good job disking it..but the water made it very deep and sucky..literally. Lol As soon as he set for the first I thought we were going to come to a stop, At that point I realized this wasn't going to go well, I picked him up and thought I could make it by it..but alas I couldn't and we hit it going into it..which in the 6 years i've been running him that is only the 2nd time that has happened. You could literally hear the ground making sucking noises while you were trying to turn.
Next stop- Beaumont,Tx pro rodeo for slack Thursday at 10am, then the pro rodeo at Deridder,La Friday night. Then leave there go home for the night, we'll leave around noon Saturday for the Marry Etta Madness show at Alvarado!

Since the last update
Went to a barrel race March 14th... got the 2nd leaving it again.
Then went to a RCA rodeo in Lafayette,La we got there Thursday afternoon the 19th to get the ground ready and such. Found out when we got there we couldn't keep our horses on the grounds enless we kept them inside the trailer. So we found a card from a guy we met at the pro rodeo in Lake Charles,La the month before that lived in the area. He offered to let our horses stay at his house. When we got there.. there was no way we could get down his driveway, even if we did there was no where to turn around at. So we left the horses there and went back to the coliseum. We then decided to rent a car due to the VERY narrow roads down there and driving the big truck back and forth would be no fun. Saturday morning the guy brought our horses to the arena for us. I ended up 2nd that morning in the long go. 13.7 won it and I was a 13.8.
They had to stay in the trailer all day..not that I think they cared any, they each had two spots, hay and water. That night I ended up winning the short go with a 13.4, closest thing was a 13.7 I think it must of been like the picture perfect run!
We left Lafayette that night around 12:30, about 2:30 I took over and drove the rest of the way home, we got to the house at 5am..and we just crashed after that of course.

Learning by mistakes and how to scare your parents..and everyone else 101
I was 9 years old at a Josey clinic and they still had that deal where they put you into 3 teams and those teams compete and it was a 50 cent jackpot. Well the two loosing teams had to run the pattern on foot and I just wasn't going to do that. I tell my dad i'm going to win this thing! (you think from my previous story he'd know what was going to happen by now) He said Ok, you go do that. I had a pretty new to me mare and she was great. I was the first one out. I come flying down the alley and turn the first..I go running across to the 2nd and I knew you had to check her to slow her down to turn, but checking takes time away and how was I going to win if I slowed her down??? Bless her heart she turned anyways and lost her rearend. She tried not going down but finally her rear end slid way down and her front feet came out from under her..WHAM we hit the ground on our sides. The swells of the saddle caught my ankle cracking it.
Next I hadn't had my bay horse too long and we were winning quiet a bit. We went to a little show in Longview and I decided i'll run in the youth then the open. Well miss Spoon had been stepping off the backside of the 3rd and I decided i'd make sure she wouldn't do that today. The youth was first, went in and turned two good barrels and we're off to the 3rd. The ground is pretty deep but she handles it well. I get to the backside of the third and my plan to keep her from blowing off was to pull her. Pull her I did..right off of her feet. Wham we hit the ground all four feet out from under her at once. She got up stepping on my hip, then trotted back to my dad.
Now how to scare your parents..and everyone else.
I came running down the Marshall,Tx alley on Jet (for those of you that don't know him, he starts from the back 40 and comes to the first wide open) He drags his rear and about the time he goes to start his turn his back end comes out from under him. I went up and he slid out from under me. When he came back up I was behind the saddle. I knew there was NO way i'd make it across the pen, much less around the 2nd barrel like this. I see Paula Muirhead coming over the fence and she's yelling pull him around! So around and round the first barrel we went till she got him stopped and I slid back in the saddle.

How to do a front flip off a horse
I was 8 and I decided I wanted to be a big girl that night and I was going to go fast and ride just like all those HS girls that run in and leaaannn towards the barrel. I told my dad I want a whip! Why he ever gave me one is beyond me, but he did...don't think he thought i'd ever use it. I go running into the arena and around the first we go. I decided here's my oppertunity to whip! I spanked him and my little rascal caught a whole new gear I had never experienced. Now this is where I stop and tell you..he was the best kid horse ever, Always took care of me and my sister..but maybe he and my dad made a deal on teaching me how to do this right? Back to the story. I get almost to the barrel and lean to the inside when Rascal does a front feet stop.. I didn't stop. I went over his head..over the barrel, completed my flip and landed on my butt. I jumped up and my dad ran out, put me back on my horse and away I went. I did whip to the 3rd..but I didn't lean. I didn't lean on anything for a LONG time after that.
One PO'ed calf and a paint horse
Jan. 9th 08 my dad decided we just HAD to pen some calfs that morning to take to the sale for that day. It was soo cold so we bundled up. All I had to ride was the paint horse that we drug out of the pasture to play on or do crazy things like this on. Which might of been ever 4-5 months. Me and her never meshed but we made do. The cows were following my dad and one was missing so me and my sister go on the hunt for it. Never find it so we decide to hurry back to the house. We're running across the pasture across the terris and hills..when it hit me..ole paint has no breaks and were headed for a big ditch. I'm yelling at my sister to slow down, hoping mine does the same but that was happening. We jumped the ditch.. and I hung with her, with some pain but I made it to the house.
We now have all the cows in the pen, get the cows out and now have just the calfs in there. We're working on getting them down in the end pen to put them in the trailer and this one heifer doesn't want to comply. So I got back on my horse as I was on foot and she was acting like she was going to run me down (got run down by a cow a few months earlier..it only takes me one time) Me and my sister are moving them slowely when my sister stops and is like you go that calf looks ready to fight. PSSHHH you sissy! I'm pushing up on them when ole paint hangs her head over the arena fence and this calf sees a chance to strike. She hit the horse in her chest then went down her right side with her knubby little horns. Was fine till she got her flanks with those knubby little horns. At that point she rocks backwards and starts bucking..remember how I was bundled warm? yea..that was totally against me at this moment. The 3rd buck her head came up as mine was coming down and our heads met. I got knocked out, the next buck I went over her head, slid down the arena fence and landed on my head (yep..I'm pretty good at meeting fences and landing on my head) I rolled over and sat there thinking OOHH where is that calf! When I hear my dad yelling are you ok?? I was like uhh..I think so? He asks if I want to get back on i'm like uhh yea..I don't want to be on foot in here thats for sure! Then I reached up and felt my face. I had blood coming out of my nose and mouth. So I crawled out of the pen and sat there for awhile watching the blood pour out onto the ground making a pool. Then my dad calls my mom and says..you might want to come to the arena I think she got hurt. Hmm, ya think? I never felt any pain till I went to the ER and my face warmed up LOL. But I ended up with a broken nose and concussion. Skin tore off where the split reins ran threw my hand.. and blood ALL over my jacket. I do my best not to work with cows anymore.

Walking to the house in the rain
Me and my sister were riding to the back to check on the cows, and it had rained off and on all day long. We're counting away when we see this dark cloud rolling in really fast. She goes Lisa we better go! I was like nahh it looks like its going to go around us. We start walking back to the house and it starts raining so we take off running across the pasture. When it starts POURING. We stopped under a tree..then my sister decides she has to go rrealllyy bad. I was like you can't wait?? Nope..So we both get off and I was holding the horses when my oh so lovely project that dumped me in the first story sets back and gets away from me and to the house he goes. Lightning booms and bye bye sisters horse! So we ended up running all the way back to the house..a quarter mile up hill.
Why are you staring???
This wasn't quiet a horse wreck..but it was funny..now atleast. We're in Ardmore,Ok for some barrel race and they had a big team roping going on in the back arena. I went to run my bay mare and she kind of hopped in the alley and when she took her last leap and took off..I couldn't get away from the saddle horn. My belt had hooked over the saddle horn, lovely! I finally got my belt unhung and turned the first and made the others. But I believe we smooth ran over the third. I wasn't too happy with her when I came out but I bailed off and loosened the girth and started walking back to the trailer. All these ropers kept looking at me funny and i'm thinking WHAT are they looking at??? Must have staring problems or something.I start unsaddleing at the trailer when I feel a cool breeze..where there should not have been one. I quickly dropped the saddle and ran in the trailer where I run into my sister who looks down and just starts laughing. I had ripped my jeans all the way across the front. There is a picture of that somewhere..
Ohh how I love Jet...haha
In mid December I was riding Jet.. he had been good for two days..big shocker there should've known something was up. The county extension agent had come to talk to my dad about planting grass. I climb on Jet and start for the back to exersize him..we're trotting along on a loose rein (should've been my clue something was up) when all of a sudden he takes off. I'm pretty sure I got slung backwards and jerked his head but he usually never stops...just that day he did. He slammed on the brakes and went right and I didn't follow suite. I remember seeing the ground thinking I am coming off. Then when I opened my eyes I was standing in my left sturrip with my left arm over his neck and my right hand on the horn with the reins in it. But alas I can't reach the ground..or atleast i'm scared to as my foot is now SHOVED way in the sturrip and i'm not sure if he'll be a retard and take off when I step down. So as he's backing up cause I have the reins tight..that i'm not turning loose of I think hmm I bet I can swing back up on him! He stops and i'm like Ohhh here's my chance! ....Riigghhtttt As soon as I went to swing over his back he started bucking..I'm pretty sure he went all diffrent directions at one time. But I wasn't turning loose..until his front end went up and I went even further up. I came down hitting the ground with a thud.. then had to walk a quarter mile to the house where he was waiting at the barn on me. But before I could make it to the barn my mom and the extension agent come driving by me..and she asks "Why are you walking???" Umm..Cause I felt like it??
How to get noticed
Ahh humiliating.. One would have to be about 3 years ago I was riding a problem horse for someone else. It was at a little summer series that it seemed everyone from our cowboy church went to. I finally get this horse to go down the alley, and i'm riding him in the open as my good horse was hurt..but he looked alot like my good horse so everyone was watching. Turn the first barrel (going left) and as we're going across the pen it feels like he slips, then he starts ducking to the right, then back to the left then does it a few more times. Each time I feel myself getting further and further out of the saddle, when finally we're almost to the barrel and he goes left like he's going to run up the fence. By all means at that point was it fine with me to go up the fence. As soon as he got to the fence he went right and I went off over his shoulder. I slid down the fence landing on my head. I thought wow..now that was embarrasing and I turn over so im now sitting on the ground about to get up when wham...the horse had turned back into the fence by the bucking chutes and he was now running over the top of me. He caught me with two feet in the back, one in the neck and one in the head. Now i'm rolled up in a ball, I finally stagger to my feet and quickly hurried out of the arena. But ahh the damage was done.. The next day the preacher stopped in the middle of the sermon and asked if I needed to go roll around in the dirt some more!

Ah the joys of being on the road.
So Thursday night after my run we put the horses in a little electric fence portable pen since there was no more stalls or anything. At about 6:45 I look out the window at them just in time to see my hauling partners black horse jump and go threw the fence taking it down. She had locked the trailer door and I could NOT get it open and she is slowely crawling out of the bed. I'm freaking out because there is a pretty busy road on one side and a highway on the other. Right before i'm about to dive out the window she gets the door unlocked. I bail out and grab my leadrope since the horses still had their halters on. About the time I come around the trailer her horses take off since they run from people EERRR! As i'm running...and she's walking. One of the service guys for the expo center comes by and gives me a ride, we get them cornered and I holler at my horse he freezes in his tracks. I start walking towards them and hers took off again but I guess mine figured he was probably in enough trouble he should just stop there. So I grab him and take off after her horses again. She finally gets her two caught. We tie them to the trailer and feed them. Then put my horse and her older horse back in the pens while we could watch them and tied the young one up.
I am going to run around 11:30 Friday night so around 11pm I start saddleing and getting ready. My horse is giving me a big attitude so I know he's going to run and turn her...I just didn't think it would be THAT hard. We have to come in a side gate, which I really hate on him. He bounced around awhile before I could get him to go forward and around the gate so he wouldn't catch his hip on it then he took off. We're flying down the hill into the arena and he feels like he's rating too soon so I stayed up over him to the first. I went to sit down and about the time I did he hit the brakes and turned back. All you could see was my butt in the air, my foot caught the back of my saddle keeping me on. All I could think was I haven't came off in a LONG time, and I'm NOT coming off this run. So I crawled back in the middle of him between the first and the second barrel. We kind of got by the 2nd but left it standing as the night before he rolled back over the top of it and cost me 3rd place. As i'm running to the third i'm thinking you really have to hussle him because he's going to try and rate too soon. So i'm over him pushing him when he drags his butt in the ground HARD and starts his turn. I was pretty sure I was coming off the outside when he kind of jumped out of his turns instead of completeing it was headed for the alley. I ended up running a 15.304 and a 14.9 won it. 4 out of the money.
Friday night we leave the horses tied to the trailer so we don't have to worry about anyone escaping again cause once was enough for my heart. Saturday was a pretty uneventful day thankfully. We just kind of hung out till it was time to run. I ran at 12:30 Saturday night/Sunday am whatever you want to call it lol. I decided I would bring him in the alley and turn him to the left and then go so he wouldn't leave me behind. I rolled him around to the left in the alley and we ended up going down the right side of the alley. NOT where I wanted to be coming from but we smoked the first barrel. I pushed him to the 2nd and once again caught the 2nd leaving it. I went ahead and let him cruise to the 3rd and kind of turned it funny cruised out and ran a 15.2 once again EEERRR.
So it's now about 1:30am by the time we get the horses all taken care of and everything and then the other girls horse decides itll start setting back. Finally she puts her in the trailer so we lay down to go to bed and at 2 the generator stops. We're in the other girls truck and trailer and she's like it shouldn't be out of gas but I don't know anything about it! I say oh well forget it and went to bed. Now i'm sleeping on her couch with a little throw blanket cause she snores...oohhh does she snore. About 3am I wake up and i'm FREEZING. It was 21 degrees outside bbrrr. I already had my hoodie on, but I went ahead and put my jacket on and curled up in a ball and tried to go back to sleep. I tossed and turned all night, never getting much sleep. Around 6:30 I finally gave up and went to feed the horses. Hauling partner decided noo we wouldn't feed them now we'd load them and go find a fuel station to see if running out of fuel was the problem. We get fuel..come back and that fixed that problem...froze all night long due to running out of fuel. We get the horses fed and go back to sleep for a couple hours. Then once again got to hang out all day cause she doesn't run till 9pm, then again at 10pm then i'll run around 11:30pm. Then we'll get to go home. I'm sure the horses are probably thinking FINALLY lol.
I won't make it to my house till probably Monday afternoon, and i'm sure when I do get home i'll just crash..maybe i'll be awake Tuesday.

I am back!..Maybe
Monday afternoon I called a friend and offered to go ride with her, and go to a little jackpot that night with her and tune on her horse. I went, had fun, got to run her horse. Then I ended up spending the night..and then staying Tuesday and riding a few more of her horses. Then spent the night again. Wednesday afternoon we went and picked up my horse and my stuff so we could leave for Glen Rose for the Jurassic Classic Thursday morning. Wednesday we didn't ride anything, we left around 11am for Glen Rose. Took us about 3 hours to get here. Got the horses all settled in and then went to sign up..wow what a line. We stood there for a hour and half waiting to sign up..and we got there 30 minutes before the books opened. Go back to the trailer hang out a little while then feed, watch some funny videos on YouTube then go get ready.
Ahh my run, Jet was really running hard down the alley. He sucked up the first barrel and off to the 2nd we go. I rode him all the way across the pen and was turning a great 2nd when he slipped on the backside. There had been a bunch of slips and atleast one go all the way down. But when he slipped I threw my inside foot up by his shoulder so I could get by the barrel. Now we're off to the third. They have the tractors behind panels that have tarps over them behind the 3rd barrel. It seems almost everytime they do this and leave a big opening on each side the first run I make Jet is headed for the opening on the way to the 3rd. So he just kept driftin out going to the 3rd then slipped and kind of stepped off of it. Then I looked up and saw the 2nd barrel laying on the ground. What a heart breaker. I just let him cruise out and ran a 15.207 and a 14.9 won it. EERRR
But I have three more runs so ill get it figured out.

Lake Charles,La
It was much warmer when we got to Lake Charles. We visited with friends and family from the LC area (and they brought yummy food LOL) Went and watched the rodeo since I wouldn't be running till MUCH later. We got there in time to watch the team roping, it was pretty good. Next they had the 4-H/FFA calf scramble. After that they had the adult stick horse barrel race for a 100x hat. It was great, a few tripped, a few fell in the dirt..a couple times. Then the clown act..ahh the dang clown act. Lecile Harris was the clown there. Another guy walked out as a woman opera singer and her pianist was sick so she needed someone to play. They turn the lights off and they go on and on with her singing a few notes..then Lecile playing the piano and pretty much doing everything wrong. By this time i'm kicked back in my chair with my eyes closed waiting for it to end. I notice the lights are coming on but I figure, their big lights, it'll take them awhile to come on..this clown act could still take forever when BOOM. I jumped in my chair which prompted all the guys behind me to laugh... apparently the piano must of blew up with Lecile rocking on it.
It was 10:30 before the rodeo ended, 11:10 before the slack started. I didn't run until 1am. I had a nice bull dogger walk with me across the concrete and stay on the side of me so my horse didn't jump off onto some slick concrete till he took off. Smoked the first barrel once again, then hit the 2nd and I pulled him up due to my saddle slipping to the side.
We left right after I ran at 1:30, we got home sometime around 5:30am, think we went to bed around 6am. I don't think I ever moved till around noon, finally got out of bed around 2pm. Plan on going to a barrel race in Athens Sunday to hopefully win some money so I can go to Alvarado and Fort Worth next weekend.

Jackson,Ms rodeo
Ahh it was ssoo COLD there. It wouldn't of been so bad if it would've been just cold. But it was pretty windy too. I think we all froze before we got to run. Jet felt good, had a uneventful warmup although I think he got tired of walking in tiny circles since there was no where else to go near the arena to wait.
They finally call my name, we start towards the alley, make a few hops and we're off. We hit the arena with a blind first barrel flying. He inhales the first and all I can think is WOOO go on! I'm not sure why he didn't move over sooner but he barley got over for the 2nd barrel, dropped his rear end and went to roll back on the backside..when the deep loose dirt got us. He lost his rear end and we drug over the barrel leaving it. Its all over with..no way you could ever place with a down barrel especially not with 200 entered. Ohh but wait were still running barrels! I get 3 strides from the third and just sit there and let my horse drop..and hit the barrel. Whoops. I cruised out, and had a very nice time that would be sitting well right now.. but alas the ground got us.
We're now on our way to Lake Charles,La to run tonight in slack. number 79 of 81..2nd to last on the ground of course.

The story of "Spoon"
In mid 2000 we decided I needed a new horse. The one I had was a GREAT pole horse but a 2-d/3-d barrel horse, and that just wasn't going to cut it at the rodeos. We run across a ad in a local assoc. newsletter and decide to look at the horse at the next barrel race. The lady that owned the horse had Chad Crider run her that night and they ended up 2nd. I rode the horse around after the barrel race and it was love at first ride! But we wanted to run the horse before we bought it. She took it to a local arena for me to run at a little Jackpot and we set the arena record, but the lady wanted me to make another run on her to make sure it was going to work out. We had a assoc. show the next weekend at another arena. I once again climbed on Spoon and out ran everyone by 4 tenths and set another arena record. She was the fastest thing I had ever sat on and by far the wildest thing I had ever run. She would sidepass down the alley till we were almost at the mouth of it, turn and take off wide open. It felt like she never slowed down, she would dive down at the barrels turn back and be gone again. But I hung with her and never got behind her so we bought her.
After we got her we started going to the UPRA rodeos in 2001. It seemed for the first 3 months it didn't matter where we went or who was there we were first or 2nd as long as I sat up there and rode her right, although there was quiet a few down barrels with her style. After that she got hurt in the pasture and we turned her out for a month, then we were back again for a few months. Then she got hurt again, once again we had to turn her out by the time I get back on her it is September and after a few runs she started running up the fence. After spending THOUSANDS at the vet injecting, x-rays, ultrasounds, blocks ect. We took her to Los Colinas vet clinic in Dallas,Tx to have a bone scan done. It revealed that she had calcification over the tendons on her right hock that they could not remove due to it was on the tendons. So she no longer has as much mobility as in her other leg and couldn't reach as far, but that wasn't career ending thankfully! But it also revealed that her heels had been turned under on her front feet and they had were now pressing on her foot causing severe bruising and corns, and breaking the bars in her feet.
We had to drive 65 miles one way every 4 weeks to have her correctivly shoed, and couldn't ride her for 6 months while this was corrected. After we got it corrected it was still in her mind. I then started running her to the left for 3 years off and on. Then my sisters horse got hurt the end of 2005, we tried other horses but mid 2006 she needed something else to ride and I was mainly riding Jet. So she climbed aboard and started winning on her. They ended up winning the saddle for the Real Cowboys assoc. Jrs. that year. She even smoked all of us in the open one time.
We came home from the RCA finals in 06 and turned the horses out at the gate like we always do. Except this time something was diffrent. As soon as we turned her loose she circled the trailer twice in a run and then her and the other horses were off in a run for the house. The only problem with this was they were running towards a closed gate, that had been closed for months. We figured they would stop like they always do but we couldn't see them as it was around midnight and of course dark outside. Then all of a sudden we heard a crash. Spoon had tried to jump the gate at the last second I guess and ended up catching the top rail of it. She hit it so hard she pulled it away from the henges along with pulling the t-post halfway out of the ground that it was chained too. This resulted in strained/stretched tendons but no tears and fluid build up in both front legs. All we could do was treat it and turn her out. After 7 months she was moving around the pasture great, so I started riding her. All would go well until you loped her 3-4 minutes then she would start limping so back to the vet we go. It is now September 07 and the vet decided to split the tendon in her ankle on both front legs due to the fluid was causing her ankles to lock up when getting warm. The end of October we made our first run back. I ran her, along with taking turns with my sister running her in 08. She was 10th in the 1-d of the first go of the Texas NBHA show in July. After doing so well there I entered her in the WBR race in Waco,Tx Memorial day weekend. While warming her up she tripped and took a nose dive with her front right leg out in front of her. When she came back up she was limping. After walking around awhile she seemed fine so I tried to make my run on her, but back up the fence we went. She had strained her tendons in her right leg. So she was once again turned out from September 08 till January 09. She is now being legged up once again, but is mainly just the "pony horse" for Jet and Shorty at the barrel races and ponies Jet at the house.
On the road again
And we're off!
We left about 30 minutes ago, horses in tow trailer packed and ready. On our way to Jackson,Ms to run tonight then stay at the WONDERFUL BHW BB's RunToWyn's house after my run tonight. Then we'll leave and venture over to Lake Charles,La to run LATE tomorrow night in slack there. First two pro rodeos of the year! Hopefully we'll start of with a bang this year instead of downed barrels and one or two out like last year.

NBHA Jan. 24th Henderson
We got there two hours before the open started but still ended up running at the end. The ground got really slow and deep after around number 50, and I was number 96. Warming Jet up was a painful experience lol but he was pretty good. Going to the alley I had Kristen lead Spoon in front of him so maybe he would walk to the alley, he walked for a little ways. Then he started bouncing around which didn't feel too good to the back. Finally made it to the alley turned him and went. He fired REALLY hard, the ground drug him down at all the barrels but he did pretty good and had a really pretty pattern. We ran a 16.4 and ended up 6th, one out of the money. Pretty good for not running anywhere in a month I guess.
